By the Numbers: Electric RC Car BatteriesThe cryptic world of electric rc car batteries may seem mind numbing. It may cause your brain to shut down even. Yet don't let that happen. Because theres really only a couple of things to remember.Batteries by the numbers starts with their rating. Measured in mAh. Which is short for milliAmpere-hours. (Literally mAh = miliamp/hours.) All this is, is a measure of how long the battery will provide juice before it needs to be recharged. So all things being equal (and they rarely are) a 3000 mAh pack should run about twice as long as a 1500 mAh pack. Which is a good thing to know, right? Yet the lower the mAh rating means the more "punch" a battery pack packs. Which as you can see comes at the expense of run time however. On the other hand a higher the mAh rating translates into less punch but more run time. So in general Voltage (abbreviated as 'V') is an indicator of speed mAh is an indicator of run time and/or torque and acceleration Still, you may be wondering how long is long? Good question. To estimate run time, take the mAh rating and divide it by 300. That calculation gives you a ballpark idea of run time in minutes - just as long as you understand your mileage WILL vary! But the big idea to take away from this is mAh is an indicator of run times. Bigger means longer but not necessarily better. Got it?If you really want to dazzle your friends and family with your grasp of battery numbers heres everything you ever wanted to know about batteries but didnt know who to ask.
