Do You Make These Mistakes With Your Gas Radio Control Cars? (con't)
Mushing on from the first three of seven common mistakes all too many make with their gas radio control cars:
#4 Lost: One Air Filter
The first and last line of defense your engine has against dirt and debris is the air filter. If it comes up missing it’s unwise to run without it. And it only takes a good bump and off it goes. Leaving you to unwittingly complete the race sans air filter. Ouch!
Quick Fix: Use a zip tie to secure the air filter snugly to the neck of the carb.
#5 What? You Never Heard of Thread Lock?
When your right front wheel rolls off to the right as the rest of the gas powered rc cars, what’s left of yours included turn left, you can just about bet there’ll be no more adrenaline rush for you that day.
Quick Fix: It’s smart, no it’s very smart actually, to use thread lock when assembling your baby. You see a few gas powered rc cars vibrate something fierce. All of them vibrate to a certain extent. And mere mortal screws ultimately give up and pop out. At the least opportune time. Leaving you the embarrassing task of picking up the trail of pieces. Literally.
#6 Filter Oil Overload
Taking another page from the Homer Simpson school of gas powered rc cars involves filter oil. Too much oil starves the engine of air. Just remember when it comes to filter oil a little goes a long way.
Quick Fix: When you’re done applying the filter oil, smush the air filter in a dry paper towel. Massaging it with your fingers. The towel will sop up the excess oil.
#7 Killing the Engine - Literally
Here’s a trick you don’t want to copy. Some kill their engine of gas powered rc cars by jamming the filter into the carb.
It works. But it’s still a bad move. Might as well put out the welcome mat for dirt and debris to enter your engine.
Quick Fix: The smarter way to kill the engine is to touch the toe of your shoe against the flywheel. Or pinch the fuel line to starve the engine of fuel. Either is way better than the "jam the filter" trick. Which risks consigning your engine to a premature death.
Sure these are simple mistakes anyone can make. But if you’ll faithfully follow this check list your day will be filled running with or ahead of the pack. If not you risk packing up as the other gas powered rc cars go on without you.
