More Electrifying Battery Facts

As we found out, long run times electric rc car batteries depends all sorts of facts and figures. But we're not done yet.

That's especially true when you start getting into the nitty gritty of battery packs for electric rc cars. If you're not carefull you'll find yourself bedazzled by all sorts of numbers.

You’ll see batteries labeled 1400. 1500. 1800. 2400. 3000. Or 3300 even. Those numbers refer to how many milliamps (mAh) the batteries pack.

Okay so who knows for milliamps? Relax. Just look at it as a measure of runtime. Along with voltage (speed), mAh is a critical number to know when buying batteries.

At the risk of oversimplification it basically come down to this:

The bigger the mAh used to describe a battery
the longer the pack will last when you run it.

So if you’re running your electric rc cars using 1500 mAh battery packs against someone with a 3000 mAh pack, they will literally have twice the runtime you do. All things being equal.

Of course the bigger the number the longer it will take to recharge ‘em too. Which is the trade off for those sweet longer run times.

But as you can see it pays to pay attention as all those numbers are important. In fact here’s an excellent overview that reveals more about what the numbers on the label really mean.

Now you should be able to find 3300 NiMh 6 cell packs online from $30-35 and up. GP3300's are a great deal right now. So you might shoot over to www.promatchracing.com to see what kind of specials, if any, they got going.

Hopefully this will begin to get you up to speed on electric rc cars and the batteries that drive them.
