More Nitro Engine Break in TipsNow one good way to get the engine break in started is to prop the car up on cans for the first 2 or three tanks and just let it idle. Being raised up helps insure enough air is getting to the engine to keep it cool. (Remember heat’s not your new engines friend.)Some would tell you that it’s also not a bad idea to blow a small fan on the engine to aid in cooling. Then set it down on the pavement or in short grass and drive it around slowly for the next couple of tanks. Then run another couple of tanks and vary the speed from idle to 3/4 throttle. Again whatever you do just make sure the engine stays cool. And remember to break it in with whatever fuel you plan on normally running. If you plan to run 20% fuel then break it in with that. Here’s a nice generic article I found helpful. You might too. Now sure some may pooh pooh this notion of engine break in saying it isn’t necessary. But they don’t understand how easy it is to damage an engine during it’s maiden run. Yes, horror stories abound about ruined engines ran too hard too early. For instance I saw where someone sadly posted these comments "No break in on the motor. Destroyed it in one run." To avoid that grief, not to mention hit to the wallet, I’d recommend you make certain you break your new engines in properly. Besides, most gas powered remote control cars manufacturers and folks who can't afford new engines would advise you do so too.
