R/C Cars and Trucks - Quick Primer

R/C cars and trucks, as you’d imagine, come in all shapes and sizes. They range in size from a couple inches long and up. Pretty much you can get whatever you want. But to help narrow things down here’s a quick checklist of four things to keep in mind.

What to Consider When
Purchasing R/C Cars or Trucks

When looking for r/c cars and trucks the most important consideration is how you are going to run it.
Do you primarily want to bash it in the backyard with friends?

Do you want to be king of the cul-de-sac?

Or do you have an eye on standing in the winners circle at the local track?
Each of those situations would call for different kinds of r/c cars or trucks. The reviews to the left can help you decide. As can other information found on this site.

Power Plants?
Next consideration when it comes to rc vehicles is power. Do you want the realism of gas powered, smoke belching r/c cars? Or are quieter electrics more your speed?

Electric r/c cars are good for beginners. They require less "wrenching" as it’s called. But that’s not to say you can’t get into nitro too right off the bat and be happy with one of those. That’s because there’s another factor.

Prebuilt or Kit?
Should you go with ready-to-run or get a kit and build it yourself?

Ready to run r/c cars, or "RTR" for short, come factory assembled. So you know they’re put together right. And more and more r/c cars or trucks are RTR. Which means to start having fun you simply add batteries or nitro fuel as needed and off you go.

The downside, if there is any with RTR, is sooner or later you will need to replace something. If you’ve built from a kit, then you’ll know the vehicle intimately and be better prepared to delve into the role of Mr Goodwrench.

Of course you also might want to know

How Much?
Prices for r/c cars and trucks vary all over the lot. They can run less than $10 to well over $500. Luckily there is probably one in your price range, built for how to you want to run it, that runs on nitro or batteries, in either a kit or RTR. Even better you can shop online without ever leaving the comfort of your home. Meaning everything you could ever want is a mouse click away.

Anyway these are four or five things to keep in mind when on the prowl for any r/c cars or trucks.
