Your RC Nitro Cars Best Friend - After Run Oil

Once again Tim was in a hurry. After another fun afternoon of bashing his two RC nitro cars in the cul-de-sac he put his babies away on the shelf. Ignoring the advice of his friend Carlton.

The next weekend Tim had to make an emergency run to the local hobby shop. Something seemed wrong with both engines in his rc nitro cars.

Really wrong.

Unbelieveably it turns out both engines had fallen prey to Sudden Engine Death Syndrome (SEDS). Caused by rust and corrosion around the piston. Leaving them dead well before their time.

Which is a shame since this is so easily avoided. All it takes is a few minutes and a bit of after run oil as a preventative measure before you close up shop.

That's why it's said the best friend of any rc nitro cars is after run oil. Because as you know when you let ‘em rip, the temps inside the engines of rc nitro cars spike. Changing dramatically. Ultimately that can lead to moisture condensation inside the engine. Which if ignored can result in rust or corrosion around the piston and sleeve.

Then too, the fuel rc nitro cars use chemically attracts moisture. And you can bet your engine will have SOME unburned fuel left in it. See where this is heading? Once again, you’ve got unwanted moisture that can result in rust inside your precious engine. Know what happens next? That rust will act like sand paper in there and burns out your piston/sleeve in no time. Resulting in SEDS. Can you say, as our friend Tim had to, time for a new engine?

Specifically the problem is the methanol in the fuel. Methanol is an alcohol. Alcohol absorbs water. Result? A little methanol absorbs a little water and mixes with a little nitro to make some really nasty stuff. Corrosive stuff. Stuff that can lead to SEDS.

Sure this depends to a certain extent on where you live and how humid it is.

Still it’s ALWAYS a good idea to use after run oil in your rc nitro cars at the end of the day.

Many swear by Marvel mystery oil. Which can be had at Wal-Mart or most any auto parts store.

Hobbico after run oil works good too.

So when done for the day simply empty your fuel tank and add the after run oil. Doing so will keep your nitro rc cars engines purring for a very long time.
Pit Tip: Oh and don't try to save that little bit of left over fuel by pouring it back into your fuel storage bottle. That penny wise - pound foolish. Because what will ultimately happen is you'll contaminate all your fuel. Which isn't smart.
Anyway when it comes to after run oil and the engines that power any rc nitro cars it’s definitely a pay me now or pay me later kind of deal. :~) And the after run oil is the much cheaper option.
