T-Maxx Takes On E-Maxx?

Some would say it’s not fair to compare either the Traxxas T-Maxx or Traxxas E-Maxx to other nitro or electric monster rc trucks. Which got me thinking, in a direct, head-to-head, Traxxas on Traxxas confrontation (sounds so much tougher than "comparison" doesn’t it?) which would win? T-Maxx or E-Maxx?
Let’s get the obvious outta the way up front. I realize some nitro types wouldn’t be caught dead driving an electric. While some battery heads wouldn’t think of getting their hands dirty enough to run a nitro monster rc truck. That’s a given. Which we’ll cheerfully ignore for the sake of this quick and dirty comparison of Traxxas monster trucks. Okay?
But if you’re willing to play along let’s quickly consider
• Cost
• Top end speed
• Fun, err I meant run time
• Brake-ability
• Weight
• Climbing
So first things first…

Out of pocket cost
Remember cost is what you spend - value is what you get. And obviously this costs more than an ant farm. Still when it comes to either T-Maxx or E-Maxx, Maxx fans would say the value you get is priceless. But I digress. Using the RTR versions as the base cost, and adding what you’d need to actually run each, (batteries, charger, etc) the sticker prices are pretty much the same, aren’t they? So these monster trucks more or less tie.

Next braggin’ rights come from raw speed. So who’s faster?

Speed
Your results may vary, but from what I’ve seen and read, the T-Maxx puts out more top end speed. It may take a tad longer to get there, but E-Maxx will be eating T-Maxx dust. So for the speed freaks in the crowd from the perspective of pure speed, advantage T-Maxx.

But man does not live by speed alone. There’s that little thing called

Run time
As you’d expect the fuel sucking T-Maxx will run longer on a tank of nitro than ayn E-Maxx will on a fresh battery pack. That’s just a nitro fact of life E-Maxx fans. So suck it up and chalk up another one up for T-Maxx.

Yet sooner or later you’ll need to stop.

Brake-ability
Since T-Maxx has a disc brake and E-Maxx doesn’t I’d say the T-Maxx comes out ahead. At least for now until an ESC with a brake hits the market.

Which also brings into play

Weightiness
Packing on the pounds isn’t necessarily a bad thing when it comes to monster rc trucks. Especially when you carry yourself like a younger Shaq since weight can translate into more traction.

With twin 550 motors plus battery packs adds on an extra pound onto the E-Maxx over a T-Maxx with a topped off fuel tank. Strictly speaking that favors T-Maxx. But what’s one measly pound among friends? Looks like another tie to me.

What good are monster rc trucks that can’t off road and climb? I’d say about as good as a third nostril. So how does each stack up when it comes to…

Climb-ability
When it comes to low end torguing for climbing the E-Maxx is superior. It never breaks a sweat no matter what obstacle it faces. (Although the closer to vertical the climb gets the more prone E-Maxx is to flipping over.) But either way going over the top is fun. Advantage? This time - E-Maxx.

Tallying it up it looks like the scales favor T-Maxx. Barely.

But still, I’d say you can’t go wrong with either Traxxas. Because both E-Maxx and T-Maxx monster rc trucks bring to the table a fun quotient that’s hard to beat.
