RC Gas Cars, Trucks and Tuned Pipes

I’m not going to try to dazzle you with my knowledge of tuned pipes. It would be a short light show. Since any discussion of tuned pipes quickly gets into physics? And who wants to do that?

Nor am I going to get into the gory technical details on how one can improve performance of most any rc gas cars or trucks by using a tuned pipe. Suffice it to say you can. And if you wish you can get specific "how to" help down at the track or your local hobby shop.
But I do want to make you aware of the basic idea with a quick and dirty overview. So you can fake your way through any discussion you get into at the track. And at least sound like you know what your talking about when it comes to tuned pipes and rc gas cars.
To bottom line it a tuned pipe is a proven way to boost the power of two stroke engines.

Yet many rc gas cars or trucks come with a standard issue cannister muffler. Great for keeping it quiet. Well okay quieter. But it doesn’t do much to enhance your nitro rc vehicle’s overall performance.

In fact tying a tuned pipe on is perhaps one of the smartest moves you can make to enhance your nitro engine’s power output. Works with all types of rc gas cars, monster trucks, or buggys even.

That’s because of one simple fact: Not all nitro fuel ignites inside your engine. Yet with a standard issue muffler it passes out into the air unused. Or in other words it’s wasted.

Here’s where tuned pipes come in. With a tuned pipe some of that unburned fuel will be "pushed back" into the cylinder by the pipe. So it can it burn and enhance the power output.

You’re getting the drift here if it’s dawning on you that tuned pipes can boost power and improve overall efficiency of your nitro rc cars engines.
Of course it wouldn’t be called a tuned pipe it you didn’t have to tune it. Which comes down to finding the right length of the "header" for your particular engine. There are too many variations to address in a basic "Homer Simpson simple" overview like this. But the ideas is to shorten the header length until you get it, like Goldilocks would say, "Just right".
Once you hit the sweet spot where your engine and the pipe are in sync you’ll both hear and see the difference!

Your car or truck will sound "smooth" from the resonance match.

Plus, and here’s the best part, it will take off like a scalded dog.

Tuned pipes. A small tweak that can boost your street cred for hammering the competition. Plus help you coax a bit more performance out of almost all rc gas cars or trucks you run.
