HPI Savage SS Nitro
Monster RC Truck Review

The HPI Savage SS is the highly acclaimed kit that's fairly new on the nitro rc monster truck scene. Savage enthusiasts demanded it. HPI delivered.

Weighing in at 1/8 scale it's hard to miss.

Being a nitro it's hard not to hear as this 4WD nitro rc monster truck delivers power exactly like many like it - hard, fast, and loud.

Don't worry about pushing the Savage SS beyond it's limits. Some say it has none.

And it's loads of fun. Plus there's lots to like about the

Sizzlin' HPI Savage SS

Without repeating the typical laundry list of features here are some highlights.
I know heavy duty is an over used word in the world of nitro rc monster trucks. But it really applies to the HPI Savage SS. The parts that count have been either hardened or sealed or made of cast metal. Including suspension gear.

The kit comes with an all new Nitro Star S-25 engine. It includes Roto Start for easy starting without adding a lot of extra weight.

The hot 2-speed tranny lets you set the shift point. And as you know a two speed adds a few MPH to the top end outer speed limits.

There's also a tuned pipe that pushes performance up another peg.

The new 49T spur gear gives you the best of both worlds. Searing bottom end punch comes with even higher top end speeds. Oh and don't forget it's full time 4WD to make sure you stay on line.

As with most kits the Savage SS does not come with radio or server. Letting you pick the electronic gear that suits you best.
The Savage SS kit is ideal for those who hanker to build it themselves. After the success of the RTR Savage HPI heard all the yammering for just such a kit. And were more than happy to oblige.

Given all the goodies the Savage SS kit is loaded with makes it a vast improvement over the .21. I whole heartedly recommend this for seasoned pros suffering from a bad case of Savage 25 envy. Particularly those with craving a power fix.

That said, the Savage SS may be a tad on the fast side - if that matters to you. Especially for those whose enthusiasm for speed exceeds their skill levels.

Oh and it is loud. Again as if that matters.

Then too the kit version may be a bit much for anyone looking for a first rc vehicle. If that's you, I'd suggest you look hard at the HPI Savage 25 RTR as a better option. It can have you putting air under your Savage in 15 minutes - raising hairs you didn't know you had.
